To be fully prepared for a great season of paddling sustainably, we wanted to share our favorite gear and accessories to keep you safe out on the water while being mindful of the environment!
We like our paddles lightweight and durable! Whether you’re paddling on a deep lake or river, or a shallow riverbed where you might need to use your paddle for the occasional hang-up on a rock, this paddle brand is the best! We’ve even weathered some small rapids, going on 5 years with our trusty Harmony Drifter paddle. The Harmony convertible paddle is also create for kayakers and SUPers alike!
It’s important to always have a life jacket or PFD with you when paddling. We have a couple favorite brands that we and fellow paddlers have used and love. Those listed below are shorter and made for paddling with less bulk and don’t get in the way of paddle movements. Our favorite is the Astral V-Eight PFD and another paddler favorite is the NRS Ninja Kayak Lifejacket.
For an easy and affordable way to haul your kayak or board when you have roof racks, we recommend using the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Pads that easily slip onto the crossbars and acts as a nice cradle to hold it in place. Next you’ll need a ratchet strap with a hook on each end to hook onto the pull on the front of the kayak, down over the hood of your vehicle and hooked to the under carriage (not on the plastic bumper but a secure metal spot) and a second one to hook on the back pull of the kayak over the back window/trunk and hooked securely under the car. Then you’ll need two straps with a cam buckle to secure around the kayak/board and through the cross bars for the front and back of the kayak/board and each cross bar.
